Players from the Sheffield Steelers ice hockey team will be paying a visit to a brand new housing development this weekend to officially open three new showhomes and a sales office.

The players and their team mascot, Steeler Dan, will be visiting the Sheffield Housing Company's latest development at Brearley Forge in the Parson Cross area of the city this Saturday, June 15 at 10.00am. To mark the occasion, a children's bedroom in one of the new homes has even been kitted out with a Sheffield Steelers theme, with murals painted on the walls of the players and club.

The 142 home development is SHC's largest development and is the first phase of an existing new development for the company, which plans to build 2,300 new homes across the city over the next 15 years.

The first phase of the scheme, which is named after Harry Brearley, inventor of Stainless Steel, is being developed by housing and regeneration specialist Keepmoat.  In addition to the 142 homes at Brearley Forge, work has also started on the development of 116 homes at Cutler's View on the Norfolk Park site, off Park Spring Drive, with a further 47 homes also being built in Shirecliffe. All three schemes will bring much needed new housing to the area and help stimulate the local economy with labour initiatives, training schemes and support for small, medium and community enterprises.

Brearley Forge currently offers buyers six different house types including a mix of two and three bedroom homes, making it ideal for first time buyers, professionals and families.

House prices at Brearley Forge range from £79,996 on the Help to Buy scheme for a two bedroom Sheaf to £95,996 on the Help to Buy scheme for a three bedroom Ellesmere. Help to Buy is the Government's financial assistance scheme offering buyers who have saved a 5% deposit the chance to take advantage of a five-year interest free loan covering 20% of the value of the property. The remaining 75% of the property's value will be funded through a mortgage, which Keepmoat can help buyers to arrange.

The high quality, sustainable and energy efficient homes have been architecturally designed to the highest standard and are light and spacious, with private gardens and parking. A wide range of eco technology has also been used in designing the homes, which are being built to the Government's Code for Sustainable Homes levels 3 and 6.  They will achieve BREEAM ‘very good standard' status (the world's leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings).

Vanessa Burling, Keepmoat New Build Sales Director in Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to welcome the players and Steeler Dan from the Sheffield Steelers down to our new development at Brearley Forge. The official opening of the showhomes marks another major milestone for the Sheffield Housing Company partnership. This development offers buyers a wide range of styles and house types as well as value for money and we have already taken reservations on a number of plots.  I would encourage anyone interested in buying a new home to come and visit our new showhomes and speak to a homes sales executive today.”

Tom Fenton, Development Director for the Sheffield Housing Company, added: “This is a very exciting time for Sheffield Housing Company and the city, with two show homes opening in just two weeks. Brearley Forge is bringing much needed quality, affordable housing to the area.  I am confident that house hunters will be impressed by the quality, style and value of the properties on offer.  There is a great deal of regeneration happening in Sheffield at the moment and we are extremely proud to be able to contribute to the city's success. After all the planning and preparation, it is great to see these new homes finally built for the people of the city to see. I am sure that they will be impressed by the quality, style and value that is being provided.”
