Joining the festive fundraising
A donation of £350 worth of toy vouchers was handed over to the Norfolk Park Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) to help buy presents for families in need and in emergency accommodation. A further £20 was added to the £80 the group raised by selling coffee and cake at its pre-Christmas fund raiser.
Mandy Evans, of Gleadless Road and her children Charlotte, 11 and Sophie, 14 were beneficiaries of last year's support. She is now settled in a new home and is showing her gratitude for the help the TARA gave her by taking on the secretary's role.
She said: “It was the least I could do. Just knowing people were there to help and having something for the children when times were hard was a huge comfort. I know the donation of these toy vouchers will be very much appreciated."
Prizes have also been donated to the fund raising raffle of the 231 Shiregreen Scouts which is celebrating its 75th anniversary and the reopening of the scout hut.
And youngsters from Holgate Meadows Community Special School in Parson Cross staged a design competition to create a Christmas card for the housing company, to be sent out to all our contacts. Tickets to a Sheffield Steelers ice hockey match tickets have been offered as the prize for the pupils – aged 7 to 16 – who have behavioural emotional and social difficulties.
SHC Project Director, Tom Fenton, said: “Whilst our main goal is top provide new, energy efficient homes for the city we also want to engage with the local community and provide help and support along the way.”
